FC FUTURES Expands Grassroots Football Program With South Bronx Pitch

FC FUTURES community pitch opened in New Yorkโ€™s South Bronx through a collaboration between EA SPORTS FC and LALIGA, combining football access, youth programming, local artwork, and year-round community activities tied to education and grassroots development.

FC FUTURES community pitch became the latest grassroots football project launched by EA SPORTS FC and LALIGA with the opening of a refurbished playing space in New Yorkโ€™s South Bronx. The initiative forms part of EA SPORTSโ€™ wider effort to increase participation in football while linking local communities through the sport. The newly completed facility sits beside P.S./M.S. 31 The William Lloyd Garrison School and was created alongside partners including love.fรบtbol and South Bronx United.

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Highlights

  • South Bronx pitch marks tenth LALIGA FC FUTURES project globally
  • BG183 designed artwork inspired by Bronx hip-hop culture
  • More than 500 students will access the facility annually
  • South Bronx United will deliver education and football programming
  • EA SPORTS FC added project-inspired kit into the video game

The site was designed as more than a traditional football field. Organizers developed the venue to support physical education classes, recess activities, tournaments, and broader neighborhood gatherings throughout the year. Built with Urban Soccer Park, the compact playing format allows flexible use for different age groups and community programs. The project also represents the tenth football pitch completed globally through the partnership between EA SPORTS FC and LALIGA.

A major part of the project centered on local identity and artistic representation. South Bronx artist Sotero Ortiz, widely known as BG183, created the visual concept for the space. His work draws from the four elements of hip-hop culture and daily life in the borough, blending street football themes with imagery connected to the surrounding neighborhood. The design was intended to reflect the people and culture connected to the community space.

The inauguration also included participation from LALIGA Ambassador Patrick Kluivert, who joined local families and children during the opening activities. Beyond the physical venue, the initiative introduces a continuing football and education program managed with South Bronx United. The organization will use soccer-based activities to support mentoring, leadership development, and academic assistance. According to the announcement, the space is expected to serve more than 500 students through school programs and year-round community events.

EA SPORTS FC said the broader FC FUTURES platform aims to connect football experiences inside the game with opportunities in local communities. The company stated that its work with LALIGA now extends across regions including Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas through football access projects, youth initiatives, and equipment support programs. As part of the South Bronx activation, BG183โ€™s artwork will also appear inside the game through a newly released digital kit inspired by the pitch and its surrounding culture.

๐Ÿ“Š What This Means (Our Analysis)

This project shows how football organizations and gaming brands are increasingly tying digital audiences to physical community spaces. The South Bronx initiative combines recreation, education, and cultural representation in one program rather than treating the pitch as a standalone sports facility. That broader approach gives the project a longer-term role inside the neighborhood it serves.

The inclusion of local artwork, school partnerships, and year-round programming also signals a shift toward community-focused sports development instead of short-term promotional campaigns. By linking the real-world project with in-game content, EA SPORTS FC and LALIGA are creating a connected football identity that extends from local participation to global digital visibility.

๐Ÿ“Œ Our Take: The South Bronx project highlights how grassroots football programs are evolving into wider community platforms with cultural and educational reach.
